Tata Electronics, a prominent leader in India's electronics and semiconductor sector, and ASML, a global leader in semiconductor equipment manufacturing, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to significantly advance India's semiconductor manufacturing ecosystem. Announced on May 16, 2026, in Mumbai and The Hague, this partnership will see ASML enabling the establishment and ramp-up of Tata Electronics' upcoming 300 mm semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera, Gujarat, through its comprehensive suite of lithography tools and solutions. This collaboration marks an important step in the intensifying strategic relationship between India and The Netherlands concerning critical technologies.
The partnership specifically focuses on deploying ASML's advanced lithography tools and solutions at the Dholera Fab. Recognizing the critical role of lithography in chip manufacturing, the use of ASML's industry-leading technologies is anticipated to ensure seamless operations at what will be India's first commercial 300 mm semiconductor facility, ultimately delivering value to Tata Electronics' customers.
Beyond equipment, the collaboration extends to developing crucial R&D infrastructure vital for the Dholera Fab's long-term success. Both companies will cooperate to accelerate the training of local talent, foster lithography-intensive skill development, and proactively enhance supply chain resilience within India.
Tata Electronics is developing this 300 mm commercial Fab in Dholera, Gujarat, with a planned total investment of US$11 billion. The facility is designed to manufacture semiconductors for diverse applications, including automotive, mobile devices, and artificial intelligence, serving a global customer base. Tata Electronics has already established strategic partnerships with global companies like PSMC (Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation, Taiwan), gaining access to a broad technology portfolio encompassing nodes from 28nm to 110nm. Construction of the plant is progressing rapidly.
ASML’s deep expertise in holistic lithography solutions will ensure the timely ramp of our Dholera Fab, create a resilient and trusted supply chain for global customers, drive innovation, and develop local talent. This foundational partnership reflects a shared commitment to the highest standards of quality, yield, and manufacturing excellence, significantly contributing to India’s semiconductor ecosystem.
