The trachoma treatments segmentation by application is driven by the WHO-endorsed SAFE strategy: Surgery, Antibiotics, Facial cleanliness, and Environmental improvement. Surgery (lid-rotation for trichiasis) commands premium pricing and is concentrated in district hospitals across hyper-endemic Sub-Saharan Africa, contributing roughly 42 % of 2023 global market value despite low volume. Antibiotic distribution—primarily azithromycin Zithromax® donations and, secondarily, tetracycline ointment for pregnancies—represents 36 % of value through high-volume mass drug administrations that secure recurring procurement contracts. Facial cleanliness & hygiene promotion accounts for 12 %, embedded in bilateral grants that fund soap and behaviour-change communication kits. Environmental improvement (latrine construction, water-point rehabilitation) captures the remaining 10 %, financed by multi-lateral neglected tropical disease (NTD) funds. Collectively, application-based segmentation delineates revenue flows from high-margin surgical devices to grant-dependent WASH infrastructure.
